Today I joined Co-Founder of Out Of Work Chicago, Patrick Iwanicki, and newest addition to the OWC panel of experts, Deborah Sakelaris (Business/Life Coach & Owner of Rodas Coaching, LLC) for an on air radio broadcast to discuss an upcoming holiday party. On December 9, 2009 Out Of Work Chicago will be hosting a “Company Party for those Without a Company”. Vocalo.org (89.5fm) Saturday morning radio host Jesse Menendez asked us about what Out of Work Chicago is all about, why we are involved, and what we do. I’m so proud to be involved with an organization like OWC because they go out of their way to provide valuable resources not only to job seekers and those who are in career transition, but also to companies who are looking to hire. These are people who genuinely care and want to add value. There is no other organization that I know of who is doing what they do. If you have never attended one of their events, I strongly recommend it.
Benefits for job seekers: OWC provides relevant news, resources and networking events by posting informative online blogs by experts in many industries, discussion forums, reviews of resources, an online job board and monthly networking events with multiple employers to meet face to face. Their networking events not only have a panel of experts on hand to provide free advice on resume writing, interviewing, finances, networking and social media networking…but they also have industry related roundtable discussions, live guest speakers, and volunteer opportunities.

Benefits for employers: Opportunities to promote your brand and save money on time and resources by meeting hundreds of qualified candidates face to face. In the time it takes you to sift through hundreds of resumes, phone screen candidates, and then finally bring them in for an interview, you’ve already spent at least an entire work week to maybe find one or two qualified candidates. Attending one OWC event as a sponsor saves you that entire week of work and then some! I’ve personally walked away with five excellent candidates from just one event and got the first round interview out of the way on the same night!
